Are LEGO bricks resistant to water?

Do you want to play with your LEGO bricks in the water? No problem! Standard LEGO® bricks are not damaged by water. Some specially designed one-piece ship hulls even float on the surface of the water, although this is not the case with most LEGO® builds.

On the other hand, we do not recommend that you use LEGO® bricks as decorations in your aquarium or fishbowl. In addition, there are also a few types of LEGO® parts that should never be put in the water:

Electronic parts

Make sure that electronic parts such as motors, sensors, lamps and battery holders never come into contact with water. Electronic parts can be damaged in water and they can pose a hazard.

Assemblies and mechanical components

Parts made of several smaller pieces that cannot be separated, such as a Technic gearbox or a DUPLO® vehicle, should not get wet. These pose no danger, but the water can penetrate the part and never really dry. This can cause the part to stop working, or even cause mold to develop.
